Build Early Money Habits
An App for Personal Finances Classes
Finding the "Why"
Creating online personal finance classes for fifth graders
In this research project, I began identifying a list of main motivators and pain points for parents seeking live-online personal finance courses for their child.

Some focus questions included:
-
What are the most common reasons parents look for additional resources to teach their children financial literacy?
-
What financial information do parents wish they had access to when they were children?
-
What are the main barriers parents have when teaching their child about money?

Creating Research Materials
Making strategy a reality
The goal for this segment of the project was to not only continue the client's initial research, but to create a research strategy to understand the mindset and behaviors of the target consumers.
This resulted in developing research questions, an interview script, and actionable suggestions for low fidelity.
Facilitating the Research
Capstone for Flatiron School
As the project was my final assessment for my program, my role included:

-
Spearheading the research by finding preliminary statistics on the market, parent testimonials, learning methods for online courses, and locating common trends.
-
Creating research questions and an interview script.
-
Demonstrating actionable items and findings in a slide deck presentation
Should parents be responsible for educating their children about personal finance? (Results according to US adults)

How often per month do US parents talk to their child about money?

Who Needs This Product?
A closer look into our audience
For this program, the primary age of users is 10-12 years old. However, a majority of the initial research will focus on parents of children in that age group. What are their needs and expectations for an online course? How can this program stand out? What can this program provide that others cannot?
Looking at the Competition
Current Market Trends
An analysis of competitor research found common themes, similarities between organizations, and what was lacking in the current market.

Finding Solutions

What are the gaps in personal finance education?
Throughout this research, it was determined that a standard for online learning has not been developed, the market is not overly saturated, and there is an opportunity to learn from the target consumers.
